Community organizations, working with the City of Newark's Office of Sustainability, hired over 100 Newark teenagers to fan out across their neighborhoods in small crews - mapping street trees, geo-locating trees in parks, knocking on doors and educating residents - to spark interest in tree stewardship.

The youth participants generated video and photo documentaries about their experiences, made weekly field trips, during which they learned about careers in community greening from esteemed professionals.

Their work led to the planting of 1600+ trees and the training of 60 new TreeKeepers.
